The Forest Has Eyes

$80.00

“The Forest Has Eyes” by Katie Elkins is a haunting oil painting rendered in dusky layers of black, charcoal, and stormy gray. At first glance, it appears as a quiet night landscape—thick with fog and the hush of obscured trees—but small, sharp dashes of orange punctuate the darkness like watching eyes or flickers of campfires hidden deep within the trees. These glowing marks draw the viewer in and unsettle the stillness.

Brushstrokes drag vertically like falling rain or veils of shadow. A spectral shape curls low in the foreground—perhaps an animal, a figure, or just a trick of the light—casting a faint shadow. There’s a suggestion of smoke or mist rising from the midground, as if something just vanished or is on the verge of appearing.

This painting invites quiet suspicion and reverence. It evokes the sense that the wilderness is aware, alive, and quietly observing you from just beyond the veil. A meditation on presence, memory, and the unseen.
